Anticipation was originally a managerial posture, the aim of which was to make forecasts for and plan towards future actions.

Then it was enriched during the 1980s by a prospective outlook (scenarios and analysis), the purpose of which was to cater for a more variable environment.

Since the advent of the information society in VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity) general conditions and situations, anticipation has been further enriched by a form of anticipation which foresees the consequences of the decisions an actions pertaining to it , in order to minimise the systemic impacts.
